Bag of Tricks

1. orange slouch bag The perfect size to store snacks, a couple of drinks, a few magazines, perhaps a travel pillow and all the other normal stuff.

2.
swing jacket It is not so long that it will get in the way when I am sitting on a blanket and not too fitted in case I need to hide the after effects of enjoying the festival food a little too much (plenty of room for emergency expansion).

3.
fireflower scarf The pat
tern will help to distract the eye away from any evidence (i.e. stain, dribble or spot) of my enjoyment of festival food. The scarf is also big enough to be bunched up as a pillow for a nap or to use as a small blanket. Wouldn't that be wonderful? A nap after lunch at a blues concert?

feeling grey

I don't have a favorite anything. I don't have a favorite color, season, place, food, cookie. Nothing. I like everything intensely at one point or another, then I am distracted my some new bit of randomness and I have a new temporary favorite. My new favorite color is grey. I like that grey can be both warm and cold, light and heavy, elegant and everyday. I love it, oh what is that shiny thing over there............(expect an update with my new favorite thing soon)

1.
fainting couch
2.
mirrored dresser
3. metal tub
4. marie antoinette headboard

lady in the sun

Simple. Summer. Classic.

1. pale fire earrings
2. bungalow dress

kitschy kitchen

I think "cute" always helps. I don't particularly love cooking, but I enjoy the creative aspects of cooking, watching others enjoy what I have made and (of course) eating. When the things around me are cute it generally makes things more fun. These tools may make my kitchen sufferings less traumatic.

1. measuring spoons
2. measuring cups
3. apron
4. kitchen timer

it's not how well i play the game

My husband bought a set of golf clubs for my birthday three years ago. The plan was, we were going to learn to play together and have a shared hobby. Well, three years later he doesn't have a set (yet) but I started going to the driving range with friends. After my first couple visits it became apparent that I should focus all my effort on my golf outfits, since my golf swing won't work out unless there is a golf course that doesn't require aim or precision.

date with heat

It has been unseasonably cool the past week. This morning I actually put on a turtleneck sweater, which wouldn't have been weird if it wasn't mid-August. However, I anticipate a heat wave in the next week. It always happens, just when I start to enjoy the cool weather a heat wave reminds me that I live in Southern California. In anticipation of the coming heat wave......(also a cute date outfit)

1. white sundress
2. soulmate belt
3. smokey quartz ring
4. brown stacked heel sandal

a little bit country & a little bit rock-n- roll

I really like this outfit. The one item that both makes & breaks this outfit are the boots. I like them and loathe them, all at once. I would have to wear them on a day that I feel really self confident. No question marks or self doubt swirling around in my head.

1. the super cute "Avenger" bag
2. aubergine sweater dress
3. tassle necklace
4. tooled cincher belt
5. toe boots (I still mixed feelings but I think they are fun)

ring, round and rosey

This looks really comfortable especially on a "salt-bloat stretchy pants" day. There are days that I wake up and it is like my body has absorbed all the moisture in the air overnight and I feel like a puffer fish for the rest of the day. I have to drink gallons of water and ideally wear comfortable clothes during the deflation period. Anything tight just prolongs my pudgy purgatory or so it seems.

1.
poet's tunic
2. red leather rose ring
3. slim jeans
4. flower sandals

just add water

I have been so puffy this week or at least, puffier than usual. I put on my fat jeans and it was even more disappointing than usual. It looked like all the circulation to my lower extremities was being totally cut off. To help, I put on a pair of spanx and nearly crushed all my internal organs. I shimmied over to the scale and I saw that I had lost a few pounds since the last time I checked. I didn't understand what was happening until I peered through my tear filled eyes at the calendar and registered what was going on. Apparently through osmosis I was able to pull all the moisture out of the air and retain it under my skin. So for maximum comfort and ideal blood circulation I went off to work in a dress that was loose and flowey. (Although, my friend was kind enough to let me know I looked like giant baby.)

Perhaps I have an answer for the future with this outfit. It is all black; so chic and slimming. The addition of the necklace will draw the eye upward and away from my water balloon body. Also, the pants have some much appreciated stretching ability. That is all I can ask for during such hard times.

1. mother of pearl necklace
2. tipping scales shirt (that's the real name of the shirt - so irritating)
3. bit of stretch capri

beach burka bingo

Finding a bathing suit for a grown woman who doesn't want to wear a bikini, that doesn't have large turquoise tropical flowers printed all over, is near impossible. The limited selection of one piece bathing suits usually lack style and you also run the risk of wearing the same bathing suit as your grandma. As if not feeling comfortable enough to wear a bikini isn't enough, the one piece options only help to make burkas feel like a preferable option.

These are cute but expensive, maybe they will go on sale or better yet clearance. They look like they might be able to create some sort of optical illusion that might make my beach burka order unnecessary.

1. smoke gray swimsuit
2. light gray swimsuit

Economic Attire

The good thing about dresses is that when you put it on you are done getting dressed.  You have a complete outfit, all with only one article of clothing. The hard part is finding a dress that isn't a glorified shirt with missing pants and finding a dress that is flattering on my hobbit body.

I like all the pleating, collar and the angle of the armholes on the white dress.  The beaded faux belt that hangs at an angle on the navy blue dress is interesting and unique.  In my not so humble opinion..............

w.t.j. accessories

I think these would be an easy addition to a w.t.j. (white t-shirt & jeans) outfit.  Cute shoes are a must but after that the outfit is pretty much complete.

Not Wanted: Gladiator

Although I went on a rant about gladiator sandals I like this outfit.  The dress is cute, a bit sexy and looks like it would be comfortable - a true triumvirate.  Once the belt is attached the outfit could easily, with the addition of gladiator sandals become an option for a toga party.  Brown leather wedges, sandals or flip flops would look great.  A pair of espadrille wedges could be cute but if they have wrap around laces the outfit becomes very "glitzy gladiator".

Lunch At My Desk

My two friends and I have been feeling guilty about all the disposable plates, cups and utensils that we use and discard at work. We decided to get "regular"utensils and dishes to use when we eat at our desks. We found these super cute dishes at, where else Anthropologie. The shiny spoon and sticks set is exclusive to the the MoMa Store. We have a lot of thai food and really don't need a knife or fork - plus the polished stainless steel chopstick are so fancy pants. Obviously whatever we pick must be equal parts useful and cute.
